As Goliath Sleeps | 28mm | 760nm Infrared.
Moving on from Part I of this short series where I shared a few very casual frames taken using just visible light, during the baling process, I’m going to press on with the next few frames that I feel are worthy of sharing too, taken using just IR light. Using just my 28mm 760nm infrared conversion for my GXR, Goliath was asleep having done his work overnight and through the previous day, and, this allowed me plenty of time on yet another beautiful morning to wander ’round and capture some more images.
760nm affords (very appreciably) more contrast and clarity of reproduction (in both RAW/DNG and in the JPGs) but I prefer always to work from DNG, nonetheless. Faux colour is less possibly achieved at 760nm because the transmittance of any colour information to the sensor is by this level, seriously degraded when compared to 720nm and of course, lower frequencies. Black and white therefore, has to be the desired output when capturing light at this and higher frequencies. Fortunately, this works well in my favour, being a devout enthusiast of black and white photography. I can’t imagine these images pleasing me more with the presence of any colour at all – despite the beauty of the day.
